Bio

Petri Juntunen is a doctoral researcher at Aalto University, examining the socio-political, cultural, and epistemic consequences of synthetic photographic media, including its effects on public trust, digital literacy, and the changing notion of photographic truth. In his practice, he often employs extended methods of imaging and representation, including VR, AI, photogrammetry, and installations. 

He has participated in several group and solo exhibitions across Europe and Finland, and his works are featured in both private and museum collections. The monograph 'At The Heart Of It All' was published by Hatje Cantz and received extensive coverage at numerous art fairs, as well as in the media. The series was also widely exhibited throughout Europe, including in Spain, the UK, Germany, and France. 

Working across visual culture, AI aesthetics, and the geopolitics of cultural production, Juntunen’s dissertation, Photography’s Transformation Within the Virtual, explores how generative AI is reshaping contemporary image cultures. Alongside his visual artistic practice, the research extends to the technology's adversarial uses, explicating its role in disinformation imagery, visual AI propaganda, and other reality-shaping practices.
