Confabulations

“(verb: confabulate) is a disturbance of memory, defined as the production of fabricated, distorted or misinterpreted memories about oneself or the world, without the conscious intention to deceive.”

The series Confabulations is study of immediate family history in post WW2 Finland, through family photographs, archives and found footage. How memories of neighbours and relatives started to seep into family narrative, how the actual historical events changed shape and transformed during the years of remembering, re-remembering and forgetting. Leaving behind a amalgam of actual incidents, other peoples memories mixed with own fabrications, creating a false narrative where collective history get intertwined with personal memories.
